A St. Lucian Artist leaving her brush stroke on culture

Shay is a Grenadian-born St. Lucian, who grew up in East Africa. She later lived in Jamaica for a number of years which greatly influenced her burgeoning art career. She initially worked in watercolours and textiles and had a successful line of hand-painted children's clothing. However, after suffering a stroke in her early thirties she was forced to redefine her style, and her current medium of choice is acrylics on canvas with a palette knife.

Shay's topics are traditional Caribbean scenes "executed with a remarkable vitality in a bright and brazen style, showing an acute understanding of the relationship between colour and texture and as a result her paintings radiate feelings of joy." Her work has been on display in Jamaica, Barbados and St. Lucia and can be seen in numerous private homes around the Caribbean. Selected artwork is currently on sale at Shay's art studio in Bonne Terre, St. Lucia.
